What to Expect
Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy
Seeking out therapy is an individual choice. There are many reasons why people come to therapy. Sometimes it is to deal with long-standing psychological issues, anxiety, or depression. Other times it is in response to unexpected life changes such as divorce, grief, or loss. Many seek therapy as they pursue personal growth and self-awareness. Therapy is right for anyone interested in creating positive, lasting change in their lives.
Everyone goes through challenging situations in life. While you may have navigated difficulties on your own in the past, seeking extra support demonstrates self-awareness and courage. Therapy provides tools to redirect damaging patterns, avoid triggers, and overcome obstacles.
Psychotherapy provides enhanced coping strategies, problem-solving skills, and deep emotional support for issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship troubles, unresolved childhood wounds, grief, stress management, and issues specific to the LGBTQ+ community. Benefits include attaining a better understanding of yourself, developing skills to improve relationships, managing anger and grief, boosting self-esteem, and discovering new ways to resolve marriage or family conflicts.
Every therapy session is unique and tailored to your personal goals. Standard sessions are approximately 50 minutes long, with longer 90-minute sessions available upon request.
Therapy may involve exploring your thoughts and emotions, practicing new coping strategies, and working through challenges in a supportive environment. You may also be invited to try experiential activities between sessions, such as reading, journaling, or tracking behaviors.
Throughout our work together, you can expect compassion, respect, fresh perspectives, and proven therapeutic techniques to support your personal growth and healing.
Medication can help manage symptoms, but the long-term solution to mental and emotional distress cannot be solved solely by medication. Therapy addresses the underlying causes of distress and the behavior patterns that curb progress. Working with your medical doctor, an integrative approach combining therapy and medical care is often the most effective course.
